Dear Readers,
|
You get your copy of Polish Steel Industry '2011 (PPS'2011) publication laid out in graphical design already known to you and, hopefully, of interesting and useful contents. Our intention is for PPS to provide information on the condition of and changes to the domestic steel industry band and sectors which stand out by rapidly developing and playing a key role in Poland's economic life, by creating exports activity areas of numerous enterprises.
Recent years witnesses a great number of volatilities. Booming 2007 and 2008, deep recession following the global financial crisis of 2009 and recovery of 2010. We are happy to see current market dynamics and buoyancy, progressing new demand – this all augurs well for future steel production and sales .
Growing output generates higher demand for raw materials, input products and energies. Raw materials market of late is characterized by extreme price fluctuations: iron ore, coke, gas and other fuels and utilities – this, again, warrants care when considering growth aspirations.
Poland's national economy of 2010 saw key economic indicators developing well. Shipment dynamics marked growth in almost all industrial sectors, enterprises improved their standing, gross spending for fixed assets and new capex increased – including steel-intensive one. Domestic steel consumption in 2010 grew 20% over 2009, which got reflected in higher output - steel makers turned out 8 million tonnes steel and 7 million tonnes to finished goods, up ca. 12% (y-o-y). This was compounded by higher imports to Poland, up 22% as against 2009.
Vigorous pace of progressing sports and transport related projects in conjunction with Poland's Euro 2012 arrangement, plus continued high consumer goods production of automotive, home appliances and TV as well as machines provide a unique opportunities for more steel deliveries, including domestic steel makers products of which are competitive and suit requirements of local markets.
Dear Readers,
I am hopeful that this year's edition of PPS'2011 will be well received and evoke your interest, with its contents insightful and satisfactory.
I do count on your feedback which will be useful when preparing next issue of PPS for print.
